New leaks suggest that Apple is preparing one of the biggest changes to cameras in years, and the iPhone 18 Pro could be the first step in that direction. If the information is confirmed, Apple will begin to bring smartphones even closer to professional cameras, especially in terms of control over the shot and image quality.
Variable Aperture Like in Cameras
The biggest novelty is supposed to be the variable aperture, a feature known from classic cameras. In practice, this means the ability to control the amount of light entering the sensor, providing greater freedom when taking photos. In low light, one can "open" the aperture to achieve brighter shots, and in bright conditions, one can "close" it to avoid overexposure. This solution also greatly affects the background blur effect, known as bokeh, which is often simulated in smartphones. With a variable aperture, the iPhone could achieve a more natural effect, closer to what DSLR cameras offer. If Apple implements this well, users will gain more control without the need for professional equipment.
Larger sensor and stronger zoom
However, this is not the end of the planned changes. Apple is working on a significantly larger main sensor, which will translate into better photo quality, especially at night and in difficult lighting conditions. A larger sensor means more details, better dynamics, and less noise.
The next step is expected to be an improvement of the ultra-wide camera by adding optical image stabilization, which will enhance the quality of recordings and photos taken in motion. However, the most impressive development is the zoom, which may reach up to 200 MP, allowing for much better close-ups without significant loss of quality. This places Apple in direct competition with the top models of other manufacturers.
If these leaks turn out to be true, the iPhone 18 Pro could be one of the biggest leaps forward in mobile photography. Apple is clearly aiming for quality close to that of professional cameras while maintaining the ease of use that iPhones are known for.
