MSI has unveiled a new gaming monitor, the MAG 256QP36, which pairs a compact 24.5-inch diagonal with WQHD resolution and a refresh rate of up to 360 Hz. It's an interesting option for esports players who want a sharper image than Full HD without sacrificing smooth performance.
360 Hz and special SLMB-Sync technology
The new monitor uses a Rapid IPS panel with a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels. Thanks to its relatively small diagonal, it offers a pixel density of about 120 PPI, which is higher than typical 27-inch WQHD monitors.
The manufacturer specifies a response time of 0.5 ms (GtG, minimum) and a 360 Hz refresh rate. The most interesting feature, however, is SLMB-Sync, which enables simultaneous use of motion blur reduction and variable refresh rate (VRR).
In practice, this should deliver a sharper image of moving objects without having to give up refresh-rate synchronization. The monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium and G-Sync Compatible.
Two HDMI 2.1 ports and DisplayHDR 400
MSI MAG 256QP36 also offers two HDMI 2.1 ports, supporting WQHD at 360 Hz, and DisplayPort 1.4a. It also includes height adjustment, screen swivel and a Pivot function.
The panel delivers 95% DCI-P3 coverage, a 1200:1 contrast ratio and a peak HDR brightness of 400 nits. The monitor has DisplayHDR 400 certification, but you should not expect HDR performance comparable to advanced Mini LED or OLED displays.
Price and availability
MSI has not yet disclosed the price or the date the MAG 256QP36 will go on sale. It is also unclear when the monitor will appear in Polish stores.
