Sony unveiled two new headsets for PlayStation: Pulse and Pulse Edge. The company builds on solutions known from the Pulse Elite, but this time it more clearly differentiates the feature set. The biggest upgrades go to the Edge, which gets active noise cancellation, a detachable microphone, and separate volume controls for game audio and chat.
Console audio and phone connection at the same time
Both models received larger planar drivers, which Sony says should provide fuller bass while maintaining detail and precise sound positioning. The ability to use PlayStation Link and Bluetooth simultaneously will also be useful. The headphones can therefore maintain a connection to the console and to a phone. Link supports PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac, and a USB-C adapter will be included. Sony also changed the design: swiveling ear cups allow the headphones to fold flat.
Pulse Edge with ANC and two ways to talk
The biggest standout feature of the Pulse Edge is active noise canceling, useful when gaming in a room shared with other household members. This model also gets a detachable boom mic. After you unplug it you can still talk thanks to a hidden microphone. It also includes buttons to adjust the balance between game audio and chat on PS5, an audio jack, and a case. Differences also extend to the drivers: the Edge has eight magnets per driver, while the base Pulse has four. Sony ties this change to further improvement in the bass.
The new models will be released separately. The Pulse will arrive in selected markets during the 2026 holiday season, while the Pulse Edge will debut in early 2027. Both will be available in white and Midnight Black. Sony has not yet revealed prices or exact pre-order dates. For now, the Edge is attracting more attention, mainly because of its ANC.
