Direct Connect allows you to create a wireless home theater system
The most important novelty in the update is the Direct Connect platform. The solution has been presented alongside the latest Bravia 9 II and Bravia 7 II televisions, but it is now also reaching older models. The system allows you to wirelessly connect the television to selected rear speakers and subwoofers from Sony. In practice, the television takes on the role of central and front audio channels, while additional speakers are responsible for spatial effects and bass. This way, the user can create an advanced home theater system without running extra wires through the living room. Sony targets this solution primarily at those looking for a simple way to improve sound quality. The setup is meant to be quick and intuitive, and the whole system operates as one cohesive ecosystem. The feature is available among others in the flagship model A95L and the Bravia 5, Bravia 7, Bravia 8, Bravia 8 II, and Bravia 9 series. All these televisions utilize the MediaTek Pentonic 1000 chip, which provides appropriate support for the new features. The update is already available in Europe, North America, and other regions of the world. For many users, this could be one of the most interesting changes in Sony televisions in a long time, especially since it does not require purchasing a new receiver.
The new My Cinema interface organizes picture and sound settings
The second major novelty is the introduction of the My Cinema interface. Sony has decided to rebuild the way television settings are managed, creating a more transparent configuration center.
