Sonos introduced two new audio devices, the Beam Ultra soundbar and the Ace Ultra headphones. The Beam Ultra is designed to deliver a more expansive Dolby Atmos sound thanks to nine drivers, including two upward-firing drivers. The manufacturer also improved dialogue reproduction and equipped the device with an AI Speech Enhancement feature. The Ace Ultra headphones feature improved ANC, 40-mm drivers, and up to 35 hours of battery life with noise reduction enabled. Both devices will ship on September 29, priced at €699 and €449, respectively.
Sonos Beam Ultra offers more powerful Dolby Atmos
Sonos has added a new soundbar, the Beam Ultra, which aims to deliver a more expansive surround sound experience than the second-generation Beam. The compact design houses nine drivers, while the previous model used a configuration that provided 5.1.2 channels. The Beam Ultra includes, among other things, two upward-firing drivers. That lets the unit support Dolby Atmos in a 7.1.2 configuration. The manufacturer also promises improved bass performance. The center channel is designed for clearer dialogue reproduction. Sonos also used its AI Speech Enhancement feature here to improve speech intelligibility. That technology was previously demonstrated during a software update for other products in the lineup. The Beam Ultra remains a smaller and more affordable option than the flagship Arc Ultra. The Arc Ultra is still the only Sonos soundbar equipped with Sound Motion technology, which is intended to deliver deeper bass. The Beam Ultra can, however, be expanded with other Sonos system elements, including rear speakers and a subwoofer. This is one of the ecosystem’s biggest advantages, because it allows you to grow a home theater setup over time. Keep in mind, though, that the new soundbar does not support DTS:X and is limited to basic DTS.
Sonos Ace Ultra headphones are meant to make it easier to watch movies privately
The second new product is the Sonos Ace Ultra headphones, which expand on the idea of using headphones as part of a home theater system. Like the standard Ace, the new model can receive spatial audio from movies and TV shows played through a compatible Sonos soundbar. The Ace Ultra uses spatial audio technology in cooperation with a soundbar that supports Dolby Atmos. The multichannel soundtrack is converted into spatial sound played through the headphones' two stereo drivers. This lets you watch movies surrounded by spatial sound without using speakers that other people can hear. Sonos also equipped the Ace Ultra with Headphone Engine 2. Sound is produced by 40-millimeter drivers. The manufacturer also improved active noise cancellation (ANC). Battery life on a single charge is up to 35 hours with ANC turned on. Users can also easily switch the audio playing through the Sonos system to the headphones with a single button. The Sonos Beam Ultra costs $699, £699, or €699, while the Ace Ultra is priced at $449, £399, or €449. Both devices will ship on September 29.
