Samsung demonstrates an OLED with 10,000 nits of brightness. There's one important detail.

Samsung Display has introduced a new generation of OLED displays using M16 materials. The showcased smartphone panel is said to reach up to 10,000 nits of peak brightness. That's an impressive figure, but it applies only to a small portion of the image, not the entire display surface.

As FlatpanelsHD describes, the 10,000-nit result was achieved in a window occupying 1% of the screen, while the claimed full-screen brightness is 2,800 nits. The showcased panel has a 6.9-inch diagonal, a 2560 × 1440 pixel resolution, and a variable refresh rate from 1 to 165 Hz. Samsung Display, in a statement about its collaboration with iQOO, confirms the development of a 2K, 165 Hz display for the iQOO 16. The new design is said to combine high brightness with improved power efficiency.

The M16 shows how quickly mobile OLEDs are advancing, but those specs shouldn't be directly applied to TVs. Samsung Display uses a different design for large screens: QD-OLED. For now, it's a huge achievement in the smartphone market!
