The PlayStation 5 Pro is becoming hard to find in stores across many markets. Shortages affect the United States and several European countries, among others, and the situation appeared shortly after the Grand Theft Auto VI showcase. The 26-minute video showcasing the game made a big impression on players, demonstrating the capabilities of the current generation of consoles. GTA VI is set to debut on November 19 exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles. As the release approaches, demand for available hardware may also rise, especially since console prices have been climbing for some time.
PS5 Pro sold out in many countries
PlayStation 5 Pro is currently the most powerful console in Sony’s lineup, so some players may see it as the best hardware for the upcoming GTA VI. Several outlets reported that the PS5 Pro is sold out in the United States. According to checks by FlatpanelsHD, a similar issue is occurring in many European countries. Shortages appeared after the Grand Theft Auto VI reveal, which was released as a 26-minute video. The showcase drew a lot of interest because of its visuals and the scale of the production. The footage was described as an impressive technological demonstration of the current console generation’s capabilities. GTA VI is meant to show that current-generation hardware still has considerable potential, even though the game will run capped at 30 frames per second. At the same time, it’s worth remembering the presented footage was produced on the standard PlayStation 5. That means GTA VI itself does not require the more powerful Pro model to run. Neither Sony nor Rockstar have announced any specific performance upgrades prepared especially for the PS5 Pro. So it’s not known how big the difference will be between the standard PS5 and the Pro version for the new game. For people planning to buy a console specifically with GTA VI in mind, PS5 Pro availability may become increasingly important.
Standard PS5 still available, but prices are rising
The standard PlayStation 5 remains much easier to find right now than the Pro version. That could change as the release of GTA VI approaches, scheduled for November 19. If demand for consoles spikes, availability of the standard PS5 could also come under pressure. Console prices have been steadily rising since December 2025. Sony also announced an official price increase in April 2026. As a result, the run-up to the holidays could be tougher for people planning to buy a console. Further price increases and availability issues for certain models can't be ruled out. GTA VI won't be released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. It also won't be available on PC at launch. Supported platforms will include PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. The Xbox Series X has similar power to the standard PS5, so it should handle Rockstar's production without major problems. The bigger unknown is the Xbox Series S, which is noticeably weaker than the other current-generation consoles.
PlayStation 5 Pro is currently sold out in many regions, which may be related to growing interest in GTA VI. The standard PS5 can still be purchased without major problems, though its prices are also rising. Grand Theft Auto VI will debut on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, with no version for older hardware or PC at launch. Sony and Rockstar have not yet revealed whether the PS5 Pro version will offer significant improvements over the standard model.
