PlayStation revealed the most downloaded games of June. A horror title crushed the competition.

Sony, as usual, wrapped up the past month by publishing a list of the most downloaded games on the PlayStation Store. The ranking includes titles for PS5, PS4, PS VR2, and free-to-play games. June brought a few surprises, and at the top of the charts was a horror inspired by the online phenomenon Backrooms. That title proved more popular than many high-profile launches. This shows that players are increasingly drawn to less obvious titles as well.

Escape the Backrooms conquered the PlayStation Store

June's biggest winner was Escape the Backrooms, which claimed the top spot in downloads on PlayStation 5 in Europe, the United States, and Canada. Close behind were titles such as 007 First Light, EA Sports FC 26, UFC 6, and NBA 2K26. The European chart also featured high placements for Grand Theft Auto V, Gothic 1 Remake, Resident Evil 4, and Forza Horizon 5. Sony notes that the Backrooms theme dominated not only traditional games but also titles made for PlayStation VR2. Among the most popular VR releases were Escape - Backrooms Horror VR and other games inspired by that atmosphere. June's results show that players are gravitating toward horror and co-op-focused titles. At the same time, well-known sports brands and major AAA franchises are also performing very well. The ranking confirms that genre diversity remains one of the PlayStation Store's greatest strengths. Sony publishes these lists every month, showing the actual interest players have in each release. This makes it easy to see which games are most popular around the world.

Fortnite still strong, but competition doesn't let up

Sony also published charts for PlayStation 4 and free-to-play games. On the older console, Red Dead Redemption 2 was the top seller, ahead of, among others, Gang Beasts, Batman: Arkham Knight and Star Wars Battlefront II. In the free-to-play category, Fortnite topped the list in North America, while Goals took first place in Europe. Also in the top ranks were Roblox, Rocket League, Call of Duty: Warzone, eFootball and Marvel Rivals. In the PlayStation VR2 chart, I Am Cat had the most downloads. Beat Saber, Job Simulator, Metro Awakening and Arizona Sunshine VR 2 also placed highly. The June chart shows that players still eagerly return to both big hits from years past and new releases. At the same time, free-to-play games remain popular and continue to be one of the most important parts of the PlayStation ecosystem. Sony will publish the next chart after July ends.

Sony revealed the most downloaded games on the PlayStation Store in June 2026. The biggest winner was Escape the Backrooms, which dominated the PS5 charts in Europe and North America. The list shows that players are just as likely to choose big AAA titles as they are less obvious horror hits.
