The NBA 2K27 developers revealed further details about the latest installment of the basketball series. During a special presentation they showed, among other things, changes to The City, MyCareer, MyTeam, and MyNBA. One of the biggest new features will be the ability to play MyCareer cooperatively with a friend. Players will also receive new player progression systems, historical eras, and much greater customization options.

The City and MyCareer will get a lot of new options

NBA 2K27 is set to offer a more expansive version of The City, which will be coed for the first time. Players will be able to create a female MyPlayer and compete in The City alongside the rest of the community. Both male and female characters will use exactly the same player-building system. That means height, badges, attributes, and wingspan will depend on the build you create, not the character's appearance. All the major The City modes will be available to both types of MyPlayers. These include The REC, The Theater, Street Kings, Park, Proving Grounds, Ante-Up and Starting Five. New additions will also include Crew HQ and Casual Corner. Female MyPlayers will, however, be limited to playing in The City. The developers have also prepared new environments for The Rec, The Theater, Ante-Up, and seasonal parks. The Rec itself will randomly select one of five available locations, including a school gym, an outdoor court, and a crowded arena. Important changes will also come to MyCareer, because for the first time you'll be able to invite a friend to play alongside you. The player will receive a special partner named Trace Miller, who can be developed and customized to suit their needs. A friend will be able to take control of Trace during co-op matches, and both players will keep their own rewards, VC, and season XP. This should make MyCareer a much more social experience.

New badge systems, MyTeam and MyNBA will change how the game is played

Another major change in NBA 2K27 will be the revamped Builder, which will get a Badge Tokens system. Players will be able to check in real time how a chosen height, position and attributes affect the available Badges. The developers prepared a total of 53 Badges, 19 of which will be completely new. Another new feature is the Badge Synergy system, which lets you increase the effectiveness of selected badges. The system is split into two elements: Fuse and Reaction. A Fuse Badge can receive a permanent boost of one or two levels for the entire game, while a Reaction Badge activates after a set number of uses of the linked Fuse Badge. In MyTeam there will also be the option to exchange nearly any player cards for valuable rewards. Every card will now matter, because even items earned as season rewards can be used in the Exchange system. Changes will also affect cards previously used to claim collection rewards. MyNBA will get a MyNBA Legacy mode that lets you lead a single player through up to 100 years of NBA history. Players will be able to choose any athlete from the Modern Era and develop their attributes and badges. MyCareer will also receive five historical eras, including the Magic and Bird era, the Jordan era, the Kobe era, the LeBron era and the Stephen Curry era. This will make it possible to start a career in different periods of NBA history and see how your player adapts to completely different circumstances. All these changes are meant to give NBA 2K27 much greater freedom both when building a player and when developing your career.

NBA 2K27 looks set to be a major update to the series' familiar formula. The most important changes will include a coed The City, co-op play in MyCareer, and new player progression systems. The developers will also rebuild badges, MyTeam and MyNBA, and players will get access to historical eras in MyCareer. NBA 2K27 will debut on September 4, while owners of select editions will be able to start playing as early as August 26.
