Before LG officially announces the details of the new UltraFine 6K, rumors and leaks are heating up the industry. This is due to a press release which – although not publicly disclosed – revealed that the 32-inch monitor (model 32U990A) has already won the CES 2025 award. What do we know?

First of all: 6K and Thunderbolt 5 – these are the main slogans of LG. The monitor is to be the first on the market with the new port standard that will support the latest Macs with the M4 chip. For graphic designers or editors, this is important news – Thunderbolt 5 means not only ultra-fast data transfer but also the ability to connect up to two 6K… at the same time.

Secondly: Nano IPS Black. LG focuses on colors – 98% DCI-P3 and 99.5% Adobe RGB are numbers that professionals know by heart. Additionally, there is automatic "background" calibration, which is supposed to save time on precise projects. Sounds like a dream, but...

Where is the catch? The issue of local dimming. Without this, even the best contrast of Nano IPS Black may not be sufficient for HDR editing. It may be a key omission – especially at a price that surely makes one dizzy (especially if LG adds this feature).

Design? Thin frames like those in the Apple Pro XDR look great in renders, but… Well, that's right. There are already comments circulating online: "Apple on steroids?" However, LG convinces that their geometry is not just style, but also ergonomics.

When exactly is the premiere? Prices? Tests? For now, silence. It is only known that if LG keeps its promises, the market for professional monitors might get a new king. But will there be a place for it in studios without local dimming and at a price higher than the Pro XDR? We are waiting for reviews and the first tests – they will verify whether the 6K from LG is a real hit or just a technological experiment.
