LG has begun gradually rolling out webOS 26 to older TVs. The new software version debuted with this year’s models from the manufacturer, but under the webOS Re:New program it will also reach earlier generations. The update is currently being released in waves, and one of the first older TVs to receive it is the LG G5 OLED.
webOS 26 introduces new features and improvements to older LG TVs
The webOS Re:New program is an important part of LG's strategy for supporting its TVs. Since 2023 the manufacturer has said it will provide successive generations of the system for several years after a device's launch. In practice this means webOS 26 will be available not only on 2026 models but also on selected models from 2025, 2024, 2023 and 2022. This allows owners of older TVs to get some new features without having to buy a new set. One of the main goals of the update is to improve webOS performance. LG has also prepared a refreshed Home Hub that has been integrated with the Homey platform. There are also new AI-powered features. Among them are AI image generation in the Gallery feature and improved search. The manufacturer also added a kids mode to help parents manage how young children use the TV.
However, the update does not only add new capabilities. In the case of webOS 26 some features have been removed. According to available information, LG is dropping, among other things, ColourSpace and the bscpylgtv calibration options. Support for 360 VR in the web browser is also gone. That means users of some older TVs may gain new features after the update but at the same time lose access to certain functions that were present in the previous system version.

LG is not releasing webOS 26 to all compatible TVs at once. The update is being rolled out gradually, and availability depends on the specific model and region. The new system first reached, among others, the LG G5 OLED. Next in line are TVs from the popular C series, followed by selected high-end LCD TVs and B-series OLED models. Owners of older sets from 2024, 2023 and 2022 will need to be patient, as their update may not arrive until late 2026 or early 2027.
For the LG G5 the update is labeled 43.21.71, and in some countries it can already be downloaded manually and installed via a USB drive. The package is about 2 GB. Most users should simply wait for LG to make the software available automatically. It's also worth noting that after installing webOS 26 you will not be able to revert to webOS 25. This year's update process started earlier than for the previous generation. webOS 25 reached older TVs only at the end of September, while webOS 26 is already being rolled out in August. Even so, owners of older models will have to wait their turn. The best way to check for the update is to go into the TV's settings and manually check for new software versions or visit LG's local support page.
