Blood Message is one of the new titles that has drawn attention for its visuals since the first footage. The creators at 24 Entertainment have revealed more details about the technologies used. They also confirmed the game is already being tested on PlayStation 5 Pro. The developers are leveraging the full potential of Unreal Engine 5 and in-house solutions to enhance the realism of the world. The effects should be evident both in combat and during exploration.
Unreal Engine 5 powers a realistic game world
The developers chose to use Unreal Engine 5 after comparing it with other engines, including Unity. In their view, only Epic Games' solution offered the right level of visual quality and cinematic presentation. Blood Message uses Lumen for dynamic global illumination and Nanite, which allows very detailed models to be rendered without visible level-of-detail transitions. The developers also use Virtual Shadow Maps to provide more accurate shadows. A strong emphasis was also placed on realistic environmental physics. Materials such as brick, leather, fabrics, and parchment were scanned from real-world objects and respond to changing lighting conditions. The game will also feature destructible environmental elements, dust floating in the air, and dynamic weather effects. The creators also implemented advanced simulations of fluids, snow, and sand. One showcased scene shows a rat running through water, creating realistic waves and splashes. All of these elements are meant to increase immersion during gameplay. The studio says the game world will react to player actions in a more natural way.
PS5 Pro is already being tested, but the developers haven't made all decisions
24 Entertainment also confirmed it has begun testing the game on the PlayStation 5 Pro. The studio is experimenting with PSSR technology responsible for image upscaling and with the ray tracing capabilities offered by Sony's more powerful console. The developers note, however, that the final scope of these features has not yet been decided. At the same time, the use of full path tracing in the PC version is being explored. It's not yet known whether this technology will be applied throughout the game or only in selected sections. Blood Message is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and Series S. A recently shown eighteen-minute gameplay segment demonstrates that the project is already at an advanced stage of development. If the final version maintains the current visual quality, it could be one of the most visually impressive games using Unreal Engine 5.
Blood Message looks set to be a technological showcase for Unreal Engine 5. The developers have confirmed testing on PlayStation 5 Pro and the use of the latest graphical technologies, intended to deliver exceptionally realistic visuals and game world physics.
