ASRock is preparing to launch two new monitors in the Taichi series. The manufacturer is focusing on 27-inch OLED panels and two different directions: one model is aimed at esports players, and the other at people looking for a combination of high resolution and very fast refresh rates. Sales in Japan are set to start on October 30. Prices are 147,800 yen (about 940 USD in a simple conversion) for the QHD 500 Hz model and 169,800 yen (about 1100 USD in a simple conversion) for the 4K 240 Hz variant.
500 Hz 2K or 240 Hz 4K
The first monitor is the ASRock Taichi TCO27QXA. It offers a 27-inch OLED panel, a resolution of 2560 × 1440, and a refresh rate of up to 500 Hz. The second model, TCO27USA, features a 3840 × 2160 resolution and 240 Hz. In both cases the manufacturer claims a response time of 0.03 ms, 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 gamut, color accuracy of Delta E<2, and support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. In practice, this means ASRock is targeting two segments at once. The QHD 500 Hz model seems tailored for competitive online gaming, while the 4K 240 Hz is aimed at more all-around premium gaming.
Rich connectivity and plenty of features
ASRock has equipped the new monitors with HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1, USB-C with up to 65 W power delivery, and a KVM switch. The manufacturer also includes full stand adjustability: pivot, height adjustment, swivel, and tilt. The 4K TCO27USA model has also received the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification and features two HDMI 2.1 ports and two DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 ports.
For now the launch is in Japan. ASRock notes for the TCO27USA model that the device may not be sold in all markets, so European availability remains to be confirmed.
