Apple has unveiled the AirPods 5, which combine an open design with active noise cancellation. The company says the new earbuds can eliminate up to 50 percent more unwanted sounds than the AirPods 4 with ANC. The maker also introduced a new multi-port acoustic design and adaptive EQ. AirPods 5 also feature an improved Transparency mode that lets voices and ambient sounds through more naturally. The base model costs 599 zł, while the version with a wireless charging case is priced at 699 zł.
AirPods 5 Bring ANC to an Open-Ear Design
The key new feature of the AirPods 5 is the inclusion of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) in an open-ear design. Apple claims the system eliminates up to 50 percent more noise than the ANC found in the AirPods 4. This performance is driven by factors such as a new multi-port acoustic architecture and improved computational audio algorithms. As a result, users can more effectively tune out their surroundings while working, traveling, or listening to music. At the same time, Apple has retained the ability to remain aware of one's environment; an enhanced Transparency mode allows voices and ambient sounds to pass through more naturally. The AirPods 5 also feature Adaptive Audio, which automatically blends ANC and Transparency mode based on conditions. Furthermore, the earbuds can detect when a conversation begins and automatically lower the volume of the audio being played. This Conversation Awareness feature is designed to facilitate brief interactions without the need to remove the earbuds. Apple emphasizes that the AirPods 5 are intended to be the most affordable option for accessing the advanced features found in its lineup. The new design also offers improved resistance to dust, sweat, and water compared to previous models. Consequently, Apple is targeting the AirPods 5 at users who prefer an open-ear design but do not want to sacrifice active noise cancellation. This combination of features is the new generation's defining characteristic.
Better sound and a wireless charging case for 699 PLN
Apple has developed a new multi-port acoustic architecture and next-generation Adaptive EQ for the AirPods 5. These features are designed to enhance audio richness and detail across a wider range of ear shapes. Personalized Spatial Audio has also been improved to deliver a more immersive and dynamic listening experience. The higher-end AirPods 5 model includes a wireless charging case and adds volume control capabilities. For the first time in Apple’s open-ear earbuds, a force sensor allows users to adjust the volume by sliding a finger along the earbud stem. The built-in battery provides up to five hours of listening time with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) enabled on a single charge—an hour more than the AirPods 4 with ANC. With the wireless charging case, total listening time with ANC on reaches 22 hours. The case can be charged using an Apple Watch charger, Qi-compatible chargers, or via USB-C. The AirPods 5 also integrate with the Apple ecosystem, though full functionality requires an Apple device running the latest operating system. The earbuds will support features such as Apple Intelligence and Live Translate on compatible devices. Apple also emphasizes the use of recycled materials, with a total of 40 percent of the content in both models derived from recycled sources. In Poland, the standard AirPods 5 are priced at 599 PLN, while the version with the wireless charging case is priced at 699 PLN.
Prices and availability
Pre-orders for the AirPods 5 began on September 9, 2026. The earbuds will hit stores on September 18. The base AirPods 5 model costs PLN 599 in Poland. The version with a wireless charging case costs PLN 699. Both models have an open-fit design and use a new acoustic architecture. The pricier variant also offers volume control by swiping on the earbud. AirPods 5 are available in more than 65 countries and regions. Apple has also prepared new software features that will depend on compatible hardware and OS version. Apple Intelligence will arrive with iOS 27 on September 14 on supported devices and in selected languages. Siri AI will initially be available in beta in English, with additional languages to be added in October. Live translation also requires compatible Apple devices, the appropriate software, and compatible AirPods. The AirPods 5 are thus meant to be a cheaper way to access features that until now have been associated mainly with Apple's more expensive headphone models.
