Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone. The device offers a 7.6-inch display when unfolded, and uses a 5.4-inch external screen when closed. The manufacturer has equipped it with, among other things, the A20 Pro chip, a special vapor chamber, and a dual-battery system. The foldable design also opens up new possibilities for camera use and working with apps. The iPhone Duo will go on sale on October 23, and its price in Poland starts at 9,999 zł.
iPhone Duo has two displays and a completely new design
The biggest novelty in the iPhone Duo is, of course, the foldable design that lets you use the device in two completely different forms. When closed, it features an external 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR display that covers 90 percent of the surface area of the iPhone 18 Pro’s screen. When unfolded, users get an internal 7.6-inch display, which is 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s display. Apple applied a nanostructured finish to it that reduces light reflections and glare. The company also says this solution helps reduce the visibility of the crease. Both displays share the same aspect ratio, so apps and content maintain a consistent look when you switch how you use the device. The displays support ProMotion technology, and their peak outdoor brightness reaches 3,000 nits. The internal FaceTime camera is hidden under the screen and does not take up extra space on its surface. Apple also developed a special hinge made of more than 100 components that is designed to provide smooth opening and closing. The hinge design supports the middle section of the display and keeps it flat when unfolded. Built-in magnets ensure both halves of the device close securely. The chassis is made from Grade 5 titanium and finished to a mirror polish. Apple also uses Ceramic Shield and Ceramic Shield 2, with the front layer said to be three times more scratch-resistant than the previous generation.
Cameras, iOS 27, and A20 Pro performance
The iPhone Duo gets a 48 MP Fusion main camera that lets you shoot at the full 48 MP resolution or use the default 24 MP mode. The camera uses a large sensor, a fast aperture, and optical image stabilization with sensor-shift stabilization to improve low-light results. It’s paired with a 48 MP Fusion ultra-wide that can do macro shots and offers 2x optical-quality zoom. The front Center Stage camera can automatically capture photos and videos in different orientations without having to rotate the phone. The foldable design also lets you use the external display as a viewfinder when shooting with the rear cameras. Duo Preview lets subjects check the composition before the photo is taken. Apple also added Smart Shutter, which uses on-device AI models to automatically take a photo when it detects the subject is in the right pose. The iPhone Duo can record 4K Dolby Vision video at 120 fps, and cinematic effects can be applied to already recorded footage at up to 60 fps. Performance is handled by the A20 Pro built on a 2 nm process, with a 6-core CPU and 7-core GPU. Apple says the CPU is up to 20% faster than the A19 Pro, the GPU up to 40% faster, and the dual 16-core Neural Engine delivers twice the compute for AI tasks. The chip is paired with a specially designed vapor chamber, allowing the iPhone Duo to sustain up to 35% higher performance than the iPhone 17 Pro. The large display also takes advantage of iOS 27 features, including Split View, which lets you run two apps side by side and even two windows of the same app. The system has been redesigned for the foldable form factor, moving controls and navigation to the side to leave more room for the main content.
The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable smartphone and one of the most unconventional models in the company’s lineup this year. The device combines a 7.6-inch internal display with a 5.4-inch external display, the A20 Pro chip, and an advanced camera system. In Poland, the smartphone will cost from 9,999 zł, and customers will be able to start preordering on October 16. Regular sales of the iPhone Duo will begin on October 23, 2026.
