OLED monitors could soon become much faster and cheaper. According to the latest forecasts from analytics firm Omdia, TCL CSOT plans to begin producing OLED panels with refresh rates of up to 700 Hz. What's more, prices for popular OLED monitors could drop to around $300 as early as 2027.
New factory
A Chinese manufacturer plans to open a new 8.6-generation factory in 2028 where 32- and 34-inch OLED panels will be produced. The most notable new feature will be the use of IJP OLED (Inkjet Printed OLED) technology, i.e., inkjet printing of organic materials. Unlike traditional production methods, this approach allows materials to be applied to the substrate more precisely, reducing material usage and potentially lowering the cost of manufacturing displays.
700 Hz on OLED. Does it make sense?
According to Omdia, future TCL panels could offer refresh rates as high as 700 Hz. For comparison, at 240 Hz a frame is displayed for about 4.17 ms, while at 700 Hz it's only 1.43 ms. Such a high refresh rate may appeal mainly to competitive gamers, although using it will require a correspondingly high number of FPS. It is not yet known at what resolution TCL plans to reach 700 Hz.
OLED monitors for $300?
Equally interesting are the price forecasts. According to Omdia 27-inch 240 Hz OLED monitors dropped by more than 40% in 2026, and in 2027 prices for some models could approach $300. Analysts also predict global shipments of OLED monitor panels will rise 79% in 2026, to 6.1 million units. However, it's worth remembering that both 700 Hz refresh rates and further price declines remain projections.
