Sonos has unveiled two new audio devices: Era 100 SL and Sonos Play. The new models aim to expand the manufacturer’s ecosystem and provide greater flexibility in using the multiroom system, both at home and away. The launch comes at a time when the company is attempting to rebuild user trust following controversies related to previous changes in the app and the reduction of support for older devices.
Sonos Era 100 SL – a cheaper version of the popular speaker
The Era 100 SL model is a simplified and more affordable version of the well-known Era 100 speaker. The most significant change is the absence of a built-in microphone, which means the device does not support voice control. This modification has allowed for a reduction in the device's price while simultaneously creating a model primarily intended for audio systems in the home. The speaker can function as part of a home cinema system, for example, as rear satellites in a surround setup or as part of a stereo system for music listening.
The second new feature is the Sonos Play, which has been designed for mobile use. The device is equipped with a built-in battery allowing for up to 24 hours of operation on a single charge. The speaker supports both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, making it possible to use it as part of the Sonos system at home or as a portable speaker outside of it. The design also has an IP67 waterproof and dustproof certification. An additional feature is the detachable strap that facilitates the transport of the device.
Price and Availability
The new Sonos speakers are set to go on sale on 31 March 2026. The manufacturer has set prices at around $189 for the Era 100 SL model and $299 for the Sonos Play speaker.
The new models show that Sonos is still developing its ecosystem of audio devices. The Era 100 SL is intended to be an affordable option for home systems, while the Sonos Play targets users in need of a portable speaker with a long battery life.
