Samsung Medison HERA Z20 with AI – new ultrasound for women. Faster diagnostics, fewer errors and greater patient comfort.

Samsung Medison captured the attention of the medical community during the ISUOG 2025 congress in Cancún by presenting a new generation of ultrasound solutions dedicated to women's health – from the fetal period, through pregnancy and menopause, to the care of older female patients.

HERA Z20 – one device for every stage of a woman's life

The most important premiere was the improved HERA Z20 platform, showcased under the slogan “From Challenges to Solutions: Experience the Innovation.” This equipment is designed to support doctors in managing patients at every stage – from gynecological issues in teenagers and infertility treatment to diagnostics during pregnancy and menopause.

Among the new features is PelvicAssist™, which automatically analyses pelvic structures and calculates the area of the pelvic floor muscle hiatus in 3D. In addition, Samsung has added three reporting modules compliant with international clinical guidelines: Fibroid 2D (for uterine fibroids according to FIGO), IDEA (for endometriosis), and IETA (for endometrial tumours). All of this aims to shorten examination times and facilitate doctors in describing complex cases.

An interesting addition is also the Mini ER7 – a probe with a head 63% smaller than traditional ones, designed with the comfort of patients in mind, especially young girls and older individuals.

New features for high-risk pregnancies

The increasing age of mothers means that doctors are increasingly encountering pregnancies with risks. Samsung is responding to this trend by adding, among other things, the Ophthalmic Artery examination – which allows for early detection of symptoms of pre-eclampsia and monitoring the risk of cardiovascular disorders.

The enhanced HeartAssist™ feature, on the other hand, allows for real-time assessment of heart function during pregnancy, while Live ViewAssist™ automatically generates up to 39 ultrasound cross-sections, adding descriptions and measurements in real-time. This represents a real reduction in diagnostic time and alleviates the burden on doctors.

Completing the offering is QualityCheck, an automated tool that assesses the quality of images during prenatal examinations – ensuring repeatability and accuracy of diagnosis.

AI Supports Doctors

“The new HERA Z20 is not just a hardware update, but a comprehensive solution for women's health. By combining artificial intelligence with the clinical experience of specialists, we aim to increase diagnostic accuracy and relieve doctors, which in the long term can realistically change healthcare” – emphasised Jihyun Kim, head of the CX department at Samsung Medison.

In practice, this means that AI-based modules are not a marketing add-on, but real support in daily work. The algorithms analyse ultrasound images in the background, automate measurements, suggest key parameters, and recommend guideline-compliant reporting methods. This allows doctors to focus on interpreting results and conversing with the patient, rather than wasting time on tedious descriptions of slices or calculations.

In prenatal examinations, where every minute and every millimetre counts, such automation can be crucial. Furthermore, consistent report templates in line with FIGO, IDEA, or IETA align standards – a patient in a large diagnostic centre and in a smaller facility receives a report consistent with the same international guidelines.

AI also has enormous educational potential – less experienced specialists learn faster by observing how the system suggests interpretations of subtle changes that are obvious to an expert. In this sense, the HERA Z20 can be called a “holistic solution”: equipment that not only improves image quality but also changes the work model, increases efficiency, and allows for more predictable treatment outcomes.
