The topic of Polish Siri returns like a boomerang. On Apple's recruitment page, a job advertisement has once again appeared for the position of Language Engineer (Polish), Global Siri. The company from Cupertino is looking for a specialist who will help develop the understanding of the Polish language in the voice assistant. The problem is that we have seen similar offers several years ago, and there are still no results. Siri has existed since 2010 and made its wider debut alongside the iPhone 4s. Since then, the assistant has undergone many changes, but there is still no Polish language version. During this time, the competition has significantly accelerated.
An announcement that has already been
Apple is looking for an engineer responsible for developing natural language processing, machine learning, and localisation for Siri in Polish. It sounds promising; however, similar recruitments were already conducted in 2020. Since then, solutions such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot have emerged on the market, which handle the Polish language effortlessly. Siri, on the other hand, still lags behind.
At the same time, Apple is developing the Apple Intelligence platform and increasingly integrating AI with its systems. In the context of Siri, there is talk of a thorough modernisation of the assistant and collaboration with Google using Gemini models. This means that the company may currently focus primarily on refining the English version of the new Siri. In such a situation, smaller language markets may once again take a back seat.
Will it work this time?
The announcement still appears in Apple's recruitment system, which suggests that the project has not been abandoned. The question, however, is whether we will actually see Polish Siri in the coming years, or if the topic will once again remain in the realm of plans. After six years of announcements and recruitment, it is hard not to feel that Apple is still more "chasing the rabbit" than catching it.
Apple is once again looking for a specialist for Polish Siri, but history shows that similar announcements do not guarantee quick results. Until we see a real launch, it is advisable to temper enthusiasm cautiously.
