Amazon presents a new streaming device that takes a completely different direction from most of the market. The new Fire TV Stick HD can be powered directly from the USB port on the television, which means the end of cable clutter and the need to plug it into a socket. This solution will particularly appeal to those who value mobility and simplicity.
Small equipment, big convenience
The biggest advantage of the new model is its compactness and ease of use. The device is 30% smaller and faster than its predecessor, and thanks to USB power, it can be easily taken on trips and connected to virtually any television. This is an ideal solution, for example, for hotels or a second TV in the home. The equipment offers Full HD resolution, so we will not find support for 4K or HDR here. Amazon clearly targets the lower price bracket and users who do not require the highest quality image. In return, we get access to the new Fire TV interface and integration with Alexa+, allowing for voice control of the device.
Cheap streaming but with compromises
The new Fire TV Stick HD costs around $35, making it one of the cheapest options on the market. At this price, we also get Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3, so in terms of connectivity, the device is on par with more expensive models. However, it should be remembered that devices of this type are partially funded by advertisements and the collection of user data. This is standard in this category; low price means certain compromises. Additionally, the lack of Dolby Atmos and 4K means that more demanding users will have to opt for higher models.
The new Fire TV Stick HD shows that simplicity and mobility can be more important than maximum quality, especially in the lower price segment.
