OLED monitors could soon become significantly faster and cheaper. According to the latest forecasts from analyst firm Omdia, TCL CSOT plans to begin producing OLED panels with refresh rates of up to 700 Hz. Furthermore, prices of popular OLED monitors could fall to around $300 as early as 2027.
New factory
A Chinese manufacturer plans to open a new 8.6-generation factory in 2028, where 32- and 34-inch OLED panels will be produced. The biggest innovation will be the use of IJP OLED (Inkjet-Printed OLED) technology, that is the inkjet printing of organic materials. Unlike traditional production methods, this solution allows materials to be applied onto the substrate more precisely, reducing material use and potentially lowering manufacturing costs for displays.
700 Hz on OLED. Does it make sense?
According to Omdia, future TCL panels could offer refresh rates of up to 700 Hz. By comparison, at 240 Hz a single frame is displayed for about 4.17 ms, while at 700 Hz it's only 1.43 ms. Such a high refresh rate may be of interest primarily to esports players, although using it would require a suitably high number of frames per second (FPS). It is not yet known at what resolution TCL intends to achieve 700 Hz.
OLED monitors for $300?
Equally interesting are the price projections. According to Omdia 27-inch 240 Hz OLED monitors fell in price by over 40% in 2026, and in 2027 the prices of some models could approach $300. Analysts also predict a 79% increase in global shipments of OLED panels for monitors in 2026, to 6.1 million units. It is worth bearing in mind, however, that both 700 Hz refresh rates and further price declines remain projections.
