AOC is preparing a new monitor for demanding gamers. The AGON Pro AGP277QKM combines a refresh rate of up to 425 Hz with a QD Mini LED backlight offering 1,152 local dimming zones. The manufacturer also claims a peak brightness of 1,200 nits and DisplayHDR 1000 certification. Is it an interesting alternative to gaming OLEDs?
The new AOC features a 27-inch Fast IPS panel with WQHD resolution (2560 × 1440 pixels). Its 425 Hz refresh rate and a claimed 0.5 ms GtG response time are intended to deliver very smooth performance and reduce motion blur, especially in fast-paced esports titles.
1152 Mini LED zones and up to 1200 nits of brightness
One of the monitor’s greatest assets is its QD Mini LED backlight with 1152 independently controlled zones. The technology is intended to provide high contrast and deeper blacks while limiting halo around bright objects. AOC declares 1200 nits maximum HDR brightness, 700 nits in standard HDR mode and 450 nits in SDR. The panel’s native contrast ratio is 1300:1, and it covers 98% of the DCI-P3 colour space. The monitor has also received VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification. The manufacturer has not forgotten extra features for gamers. On board are AMD FreeSync, a motion blur reduction mode and the option to display an on-screen crosshair. Users get DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR13.5, two HDMI 2.1, a USB hub and a headphone output. The stand allows height adjustment, swivel and tilt.
The AOC AGP277QKM has already appeared in the manufacturer’s Chinese catalogue. For now its price and potential European launch date are unknown.
