Microsoft is starting to test big changes to the achievements system on Xbox, and it looks like this is one of those updates that players have been waiting for years. The new features are first entering the Xbox Insider Program, but it’s already clear that this is about more than just cosmetics. Microsoft wants Achievements to be more visible, more personal, and above all, better suited to how players want to showcase their achievements on their profile. This is a shift in approach – from a simple points system to something closer to a player’s showcase.
A new look for achievements and more personalisation means that earning trophies finally provides greater satisfaction
One of the most noticeable changes is the refreshed appearance of achievement notifications, which introduces new animations, icons, and colour matching to the user's settings. It may seem trivial, but in practice, it makes earning achievements feel more like a "reward" rather than just another popup on the screen. Microsoft clearly wants the moment of unlocking an achievement to be more satisfying and stand out visually, especially in the case of rare achievements. This is important because for years the system was functional but rather devoid of emotion; now that is set to change and will resemble the experience known, for example, from PlayStation trophies.
Hiding games and highlighting completed titles gives players control over their profile
A much more important change, however, is the ability to hide games from the achievements list, which was one of the most frequently requested features by the community. This allows players to remove titles from their profile that they don’t want to show, such as those briefly tested or unfinished. Importantly, Gamerscore still counts, so it's just a matter of presentation. Additionally, there’s the highlighting of games completed at 100%, allowing players to quickly showcase which titles have been “maxed out.” Together, this creates a clearer and more personalized profile that better reflects the user’s playing style, rather than just raw numbers.
Xbox takes a step in the right direction Achievements finally become more than just points and begin to serve as a real badge of honour for the player. If Microsoft continues down this path, the system could become one of the strongest elements of the entire ecosystem.
