webOS 25 is landing on older LG TVs. The update has already begun!

Calendar 10/3/2025

LG rolls out webOS 25 to older TVs. The update for 2024, 2023, and select 2022 OLED/QNED models has already started globally.

LG has started rolling out webOS 25 for older TV models – this includes all models from 2024 and 2023 as well as selected models from 2022 (including OLED and 8K QNED). This is a continuation of the “Re:New” program, under which the company, contrary to its previous policy, is updating the system on older devices as well – a similar approach is already being used by Samsung with Tizen OS.

Which models will receive webOS 25?

The update appears about 6–7 months after the release of the 2025 models, which have already been factory-equipped with webOS 25.

First up are the OLED TVs (including the B series), as well as selected QNED models.

Look for software version 33.21.85 or newer 33.22.15 (the latter includes additional bug fixes). The update is being rolled out in waves globally, so it may take some time before you see it in your TV menu. Alternatively, you can manually download the firmware from the LG support site and install it via USB.

New Features in webOS 25

Although it’s not a huge revolution, the new version brings a lot of practical changes:

  • the ability to hide preinstalled applications on the home screen,

  • improved input shortcut – switches only after clicking, not hovering,

  • support for 1440p 120 Hz (especially useful for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2),

  • new AI Sound Mode,

  • AI Art features in selected regions,

  • more screensaver options + the ability to add your own photos,

  • redesigned smart home device control hub.

Let’s remember that webOS 24 previously added support for Google Cast (Chromecast).

Attention – memory issues

Some users are reporting memory problems that may cause media players to freeze – both the built-in one and external applications (e.g. Plex).

If you regularly use such applications, it’s advisable to wait for updates until fixes are released or use external devices like Apple TV 4K or Nvidia Shield.
