TCL shows the future of televisions. 130 inches, foldable OLED and record colours.

TCL showcased several very futuristic display technologies at the SID Display Week 2026. The company presented, among other things, a massive 130-inch LCD panel, a foldable OLED monitor, and a new screen offering record coverage of the BT.2020 colour space. Everything suggests that the manufacturer aims to compete more strongly with Samsung and LG not only in televisions but also in the market for modern OLED panels.

TCL presents a giant television and foldable OLED monitor

One of the biggest attractions at the expo was a 130-inch LCD panel, which TCL describes as the largest of its kind in the world. Interestingly, despite its enormous size, the design is less than 3 centimetres thick. The panel offers a 4K resolution and will likely make its way into very expensive premium televisions in the future. This screen is set to be the basis for new Samsung Micro RGB models and future TCL TVs. The company also showcased a remarkably interesting foldable OLED monitor made using inkjet printing technology. The panel can transform from a 16-inch screen into a 28-inch ultra-wide monitor. TCL claims that the new technology will be more energy-efficient than current OLEDs while providing a better RGB structure than some competing solutions. The manufacturer clearly signals that it aims to compete with LG WOLED and Samsung QD-OLED in monitors and mobile devices as well.

New TCL technology could greatly enhance HDR quality

However, the most futuristic appearance comes from the new LCD panel using RGBC LED backlighting. In addition to the standard red, green, and blue LEDs, a fourth colour, cyan, has also been added. This allows the screen to achieve up to 131 percent coverage of the BT.2020 colour space, which is a result significantly higher than today's best premium televisions. Such a wide colour range could finally enable televisions to fully leverage the capabilities of modern HDR formats, such as HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. TCL also suggests that the technology could work with very high image brightness, potentially approaching even 10,000 nits. For now, however, it remains a demonstration technology that will likely only make its way into consumer televisions in a few years.
