T-Mobile is focusing on real-time conversation translation. The new feature works across the entire network.

Calendar 2/12/2026

As reported by Telepolis, American T-Mobile has announced the launch of the Live Translation service, which allows for real-time translation of voice conversations. The new feature operates directly within the mobile network infrastructure, rather than in an app or at the system level of the phone. This means that users do not need special equipment or devices with AI capabilities. The system supports over 50 languages, including Polish. This is a clear step towards leveraging artificial intelligence as a core element of the operator's offering. The solution could change the way international conversations are conducted.

How does Live Translation work?

The function is activated during a conversation by entering the code 87. The system automatically recognises the languages used by the speakers and translates the statements in both directions almost instantly. The entire processing takes place over the T-Mobile network, which is why the service works even on basic phones without access to an app. It's enough that one party of the call is a customer of the operator and has enrolled in the beta program. The other speaker can use any network.

Availability and Limitations

The beta program is free and aimed at subscription customers. Registration occurs through the T-Life app or the operator's website. At this stage, the feature does not include prepaid users or business customers. This is a testing phase designed to assess the stability and quality of translation under real conditions.

Will the competition catch up?

Until now, real-time conversation translation has mainly been associated with functions in smartphones and AI headphones. T-Mobile is taking this capability to the level of telecommunications infrastructure. Analysts predict that operators like AT&T and Verizon will soon have to respond with similar services to avoid falling behind technologically.

Live Translation is an example of how operators are beginning to genuinely utilise artificial intelligence in their infrastructure. Translation carried out directly in the network eliminates the need to use applications and modern hardware. If the solution proves effective in practice, it could become the new standard in international communication. For now, it is an innovation available in the USA, but its significance may extend far beyond a single market.
