Sony has officially unveiled new audio solutions for its Bravia televisions, and it seems the company wants to simplify the construction of home theatres even further. The biggest innovation is the Bravia Theatre Trio system, which aims to provide Dolby Atmos spatial sound without the need to set up large speakers throughout the living room. The manufacturer also showcased a new Direct Connect technology that enables wireless connection of additional speakers to compatible televisions. Sony is focusing on its own solutions instead of Dolby Atmos FlexConnect. This is complemented by a new My Cinema interface that allows for more convenient management of picture and audio settings. The company clearly aims to create a more modern and simpler home theatre ecosystem.
Bravia Theatre Trio is set to offer cinematic sound without large audio setups
Bravia Theatre Trio consists of a compact soundbar serving as the centre channel and two wireless satellite speakers. The system supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and IMAX Enhanced. Sony also employs 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology, which is designed to create virtual speakers placed throughout the room. The set can be expanded with additional subwoofers and rear surround speakers. During the presentation, Sony showcased the full configuration with additional Rear 9 and Sub 9, which was intended to deliver a highly immersive effect during action scenes from the film No Time to Die. Bravia Theatre Trio launches in Europe at a price of around 2339 euros.
Sony expands its own wireless audio system for televisions
The second major innovation is the Direct Connect technology for Bravia televisions. The system allows for the wireless connection of rear speakers and subwoofers directly to compatible Sony televisions. The television then handles the front channels and central sound, while the additional speakers create a surround sound effect. Sony has acknowledged that it currently does not plan to implement Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, as the company wants to develop its own audio solutions. The manufacturer also showcased the new My Cinema interface, which will allow users to save separate picture and sound settings for different streaming applications. Users will be able to create their own viewing profiles tailored to specific situations and quickly switch between them without delving deep into the television settings.
Sony is increasingly developing its own audio ecosystem for Bravia televisions and is focusing on more wireless and smart solutions. Bravia Theatre Trio and Direct Connect aim to simplify the setup of a home theatre while providing a more spatial sound without a large number of cables.
