Roku has long been regarded as one of the best alternatives to Android TV and Google TV. The platform is available on many televisions, but it has been difficult to find a device that offers cinematic quality on the big screen.
This is changing with the launch of the Aurzen Roku TV Smart Projector D1 Cube, which introduces the Roku TV system into a completely new category of hardware.
First projector with ChooseTV
Roku emphasises that this is the first projector in history with a natively operating ChooseTV system – and it’s hard to argue with that, considering the device comes directly from the company itself. Until now, it was possible to use a projector in conjunction with a Roku stick, but the entire platform has never been built into the device itself.
This is an important step, as Roku remains number one among TV systems in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Such brand recognition could translate into the success of this model.
Price and specification
One of the biggest advantages of the projector is the price – 199.99 USD (approx. 149 GBP) on Amazon – and the decent specification for such an affordable piece of equipment:
Model | USD | GBP | EUR | AUD | PLN* |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Aurzen Roku TV Smart Projector D1 Cube | 199.99 | ~149 | ~185 | ~310 | ~860 |
*Converted approximately at rates: 1 USD ≈ 4.3 PLN, 1 GBP ≈ 5.0 PLN, 1 EUR ≈ 4.7 PLN, 1 AUD ≈ 2.9 PLN.
The projector supports 1080p Full HD with a maximum brightness of 330 ANSI lumens, and the image can be projected in the range of 40 to 150 inches. Sound is provided by two 5 W speakers.
The device can be used both indoors and outdoors, although it doesn't have a built-in battery, so it will always need to be plugged into power. The projector is dust-resistant and has sealed optics, but it is not waterproof – therefore, it won't perform well in the rain.
Streaming and Smart Features
The Aurzen Roku TV Smart Projector D1 Cube supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2, allowing you to watch Netflix, YouTube, or hundreds of other apps available on Roku TV. Additionally, it offers over 500 live TV channels and “Roku Originals”.
It also comes with HDMI, USB, 3.5 mm audio output ports and supports AirPlay. The projector also works with the Roku mobile app, enabling you to control other smart home devices.
Setup is straightforward – the auto focus and keystone correction features make it almost plug & play. Just position the device at the right distance from the wall and you’re all set.
Competition and Positioning
Of course, the D1 Cube does not compete with top projectors like Xgimi Titan, Horizon 20 Max, or the impressive Valerion VisionMaster Max, nor with speaker-projectors like the Anker Soundcore Nebula X1 Pro.
Instead, it targets the segment of cheaper, portable models, such as the Xgimi MoGo Pro 3 or Samsung The Freestyle 2. In this price range, the combination of a low price and the Roku TV system can be very attractive – even if it lacks a built-in battery.
