In the case of the PlayStation 6, there are increasing leaks and unofficial reports regarding the hardware specifications, which shed light on the plans of the Japanese manufacturer. The latest information suggests that the PS6 may be equipped with as much as 30 GB of GDDR7 memory, indicating a clear technological leap and preparing the console for significantly more demanding games of the future.
Leak reveals PS6 memory configuration
According to information emerging on the NeoGAF forum, supported by well-known insider Kepler2, PlayStation 6 may be equipped with 30 GB of GDDR7 memory operating in a shared memory model between CPU and GPU. The source suggests that Sony is considering using ten 3 GB memory modules, which would be a clear departure from the previous solutions used in consoles. This configuration could give developers greater flexibility in resource utilisation and better prepare the console for the demands of the next generation of games.
According to forecasts, PlayStation 6 may debut only around 2029, and the use of 30 GB of GDDR7 memory will likely result in a significantly higher price for the console. Similar leaks also pertain to the new Xbox, suggesting that the next generation of consoles may clearly shift towards the more expensive premium segment.
