Apple is getting closer to the launch of the first MacBook Pro models with OLED screens. A new report suggests that display production has reached a key milestone, allowing Apple to avoid availability issues during the debut of the M6 series.
Samsung has reached an important production milestone in OLED
Samsung is responsible for the production of OLED screens for the new MacBook Pro models. According to a report, the company has already surpassed the 90% mark for functional panels in the production process of the next generation OLED 8.6G. This is a very significant moment, as such a level is considered safe for the start of mass production in the display industry. Samsung is reportedly set to begin mass production of OLED panels as early as next month. Currently, the company has the capacity to produce around 2 million displays, which should be sufficient for the first wave of the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M6 chips. Thanks to high production efficiency, Apple is also expected to reduce losses associated with faulty panels and lessen the pressure to lower screen prices.
MacBook Pro will undergo its biggest change in years
The new models are set to receive not only OLED but also a thinner chassis and a new screen design with a punch-hole cutout instead of the classic notch. Leaks are also revealing information about the support for touch screens, which would be one of the biggest changes in MacBook history. The report suggests that OLED will be exclusive to models with M6 Pro and M6 Max chips.
Cheaper configurations are expected to continue using earlier versions of the MacBook Pro based on M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, allowing Apple to maintain a lower price point. The Chinese manufacturer BOE is also working on OLEDs for laptops, but currently, Samsung has a significant technological and production edge. According to the report, competition from BOE may have accelerated the development of OLED technology for MacBooks.
Samsung has reached a key milestone in the production of OLED screens for the new MacBook Pro with M6 chips. This will allow Apple to avoid issues with the launch and is preparing the biggest changes to the MacBook Pro series in many years.
