"“We don't just want better graphics.” The head of CD Projekt reassures fans: The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 will not be straightforward sequels!"

Calendar 11/24/2025

CD Projekt confirms: The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 will not be simple sequels - the studio is inspired by Baldur’s Gate 3, but is committed to its own style and new innovations.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has wiped the board clean of all competition and has become one of the most influential games in recent years. It's no surprise that the production by Larian Studios has also attracted the attention of CD Projekt Red. But if anyone was hoping that Witcher 4 would suddenly turn into an isometric RPG with turn-based combat and a thousand interaction options, well… not this time.

Baldur’s Gate 3 inspires, but CDPR is going its own way

The site PC Gamer recently spoke with the president of CD Projekt, Michał Nowakowski. One of the questions concerned the direction in which the gaming division is heading and whether the phenomenon of BG3 has influenced the studio's plans. Nowakowski admitted outright — yes, Baldur’s Gate 3 is an inspiration, but it does not change the DNA of their productions:

“Baldur’s Gate 3 has been very inspiring, but I think we will still stick to what was in The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk. However, we don't just want to make another identical game, just with better graphics. We want to innovate.”

It's important to emphasize: CDPR does not intend to copy BG3, nor to change the genre of its games, but is closely examining how Larian approached world interaction and environmental reactivity.

The Witcher 4 in the style of BG3? “Definitely not”

Nowakowski clearly distanced himself from the expectations that the fourth Witcher could go the way of Larian.

“We definitely do not intend to make a game like the one Larian created. That is the kind of game they are capable of making. But the way the world interacts and how it reacts was certainly an inspiration for us.”

In other words - there will be no turn-based gameplay, there will be no isometric view, but there may be more depth in the world and in how it reacts to player actions.

Divinity-style spin-off? Not that either

Although theoretically it could be interesting, Nowakowski firmly excluded such a direction. CDPR has a different philosophy today:

“At some point, we made the decision that our internal team needs to focus on key games, not on spin-offs.”

In short: now only big projects — like The Witcher 4 or the next Cyberpunk.

Witcher 4 is one of the most anticipated games in the industry

There is no doubt about it: the hype is enormous. This is best illustrated by the nominations and voting results; Witcher 4 appears in the lists of the most anticipated productions of the year, including at The Game Awards and the Golden Joystick Awards 2025. Competition? As always, lethal. But the expectations for CDPR are equally high, and it looks like the studio is not willing to take the easy route. There will be no Witcher 3.5 or Cyberpunk 1.5 with new graphics. There will be innovations.

And what kind? CDPR has not revealed that yet — but it promises to be a fascinating phase for the studio's fans.
