Microsoft is increasingly moving away from strict exclusivity. The latest example is Towerborne – a production from Stoic studio, which has long been associated with the Xbox brand. Today, the game debuts not only on Xbox Game Pass, but also on PlayStation 5.
"Xbox" project that stopped being exclusive
Towerborne functioned for a long time as a title associated with the Xbox ecosystem. It was promoted at Microsoft events and primarily announced with Xbox Series X|S and PC in mind. However, the developers ultimately decided to expand distribution, and from the release date, the game is also available on PS5. For Xbox players, however, the most important information is different: Towerborne has been included in Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass. This means that subscribers can start playing without any additional fees.
Full version, not a demo
The premiere version of Towerborne is not an experiment or an expanded Preview version. Stoic Studio has completed the testing phase and prepared a complete production with new narrative content, additional areas, fresh enemies, and a redesigned progression system. The developers have improved the difficulty balance, added the option to play offline, and enhanced the online co-op mode. Cosmetic rewards are now earned naturally during gameplay, without the need to use additional systems.
Towerborne is another signal that Microsoft is changing its strategy and increasingly boldly releasing supported projects outside its own ecosystem. For Game Pass subscribers, it's a strong launch "to start with," and for PS5 owners – a chance to play a title that until recently seemed typically Xbox.
