Blizzard Entertainment is not slowing down and is launching another major chapter for Overwatch 2. Season 2: Summit is one of the most packed updates in a long time - a new hero, revamped maps, fresh modes, and plenty of changes to gameplay systems. This is not your typical "cosmetic" season; it's a concrete expansion of both gameplay and story. If someone has been waiting for a bigger refresh, now is the time to return to the game.
New Heroine and More Story than Usual
The biggest star of the season is, of course, Sierra, a new DPS character who brings not only fresh mechanics to the game but also a significant piece of the Overwatch world’s lore. As a former head of security at Watchpoint: Grand Mesa and a person connected to the Soldier Enhancement program, her storyline directly intersects with characters like Jack Morrison and Gabriel Reyes. This means that Blizzard is putting more emphasis than ever on lore development, not just gameplay. Sierra utilizes a rifle and is supported by a drone named Dorothy, which suggests a more tactical combat style. Her debut is accompanied by a special event Operation: Grand Mesa, which allows players to unlock story elements by completing challenges. This is an interesting step; instead of just watching the story, players actively discover it during gameplay.
Map reworks and a lot of changes in the systems
Besides the new hero, Blizzard is also adding a solid package of changes to the game itself. The map Antarctic Peninsula has been reworked to improve the fluidity of clashes and add more flanking options. The Post Match Accolades are also returning, which is a system rewarding players for their contribution to the match, something that is meant to increase the sense of satisfaction and cooperation. There are also cosmetic highlights with Mythic skins for Soldier: 76 and Genji introducing new levels of customization and visual effects. Additionally, there are changes to hero perks (e.g., faster sprint for Soldier or extra healing for Mercy), a new map in the Stadium mode, as well as seasonal events like Sakura Collection and the return of collaboration with the team LE SSERAFIM.
The Summit season shows that Overwatch 2 is still evolving and not only focuses on new characters but also on real changes in gameplay and storyline. This is one of the strongest updates in a long time.
