Samsung has been developing its own QD-OLED technology for years, but the latest launch shows the manufacturer does not intend to limit itself to its own solutions. Three new OLED monitors have just gone on sale, and one of them will go down in the company's history as the first model to use a WOLED panel from LG Display.
Samsung follows in the footsteps of its OLED TVs
The new model is the Samsung G73SH monitor, which, according to FlatpanelsHD's editorial team, is based on a WOLED panel manufactured by LG Display. It's the first such design in the history of Samsung monitors. However, the decision is not entirely surprising. The company has used a similar strategy for several years with its OLED TVs, where, depending on the model and size, it uses both its own QD-OLED panels and WOLED panels.
The G73SH was designed primarily with gamers in mind. It offers 4K resolution, a 165 Hz refresh rate, and a 330 Hz mode when switched to Full HD.
New QD-OLEDs and a clear signal to the market
At the same time, Samsung began selling the G80SH models in 27-inch and 32-inch versions. The monitors feature 4th-generation QD-OLED panels with 4K resolution and a 240 Hz refresh rate. The manufacturer applied a matte screen coating, HDMI 2.1 inputs, DisplayPort 2.1, and USB-C with up to 98 W power delivery. They also include support for HDR10+ Gaming.
Although the launch of new monitors is important in itself, the direction the entire OLED market is taking seems even more interesting. Samsung is increasingly using panels from its biggest rival, something that would have seemed unlikely just a few years ago. Everything suggests that, faced with growing competition from Chinese manufacturers, the lines between traditional rivals are beginning to blur.
