Rockstar teaches patience. The new secret of Red Dead Redemption 2 explains the delay of GTA 6!

Calendar 1/12/2026

Why is GTA 6 taking so long to develop? A new discovery in Red Dead Redemption 2 shows how Rockstar designs games for the long term, focusing on detail, quality, and world longevity.

Although Red Dead Redemption 2 was released in 2018, players have just stumbled upon a completely new easter egg that has gone unnoticed for years. Moreover, this is the largest discovery in this game in years, and much suggests that it is not yet solved. For some fans, it is further evidence of why Rockstar Games needs such huge amounts of time to create their games, including the long-awaited GTA 6. The source of the discovery is a popular researcher of Rockstar's mysteries – Strange Man, who was the first to present the details of the puzzle on his YouTube channel.

New Easter egg in Red Dead Redemption 2 – what have players discovered?

In the heart of the Heartlands region, a spider symbol has been found, placed on one of the telegraph poles. When this symbol is overlaid on the game world map, it turns out that it leads to eight different telegraph poles. Each of them has:

  • an unusual spider web

  • a feather attached that can be shot down

But that's just the beginning. In the center of the symbol, players come across a tree with a huge spider web, featuring the letter “N” and a drawing of a telegraph pole. When the player goes exactly north and shoots the next pole, a hidden message appears under the wood, suggesting to head west, five more poles. After completing this sequence, the next puzzle is revealed: a guitar symbol and the letters “NW”.

At this point, the investigation has hit a dead end. The northwest direction leads to Fort Wallace, where guitars can actually be found, but none of them have been linked to the puzzle's solution yet. The player community, however, agrees – it's not a coincidence, but merely a part of a much larger mystery.

This is the biggest unsolved discovery in Red Dead Redemption 2 in years and all signs point to Rockstar intentionally leaving it without a definitive conclusion.

What does this have to do with GTA 6?

For many players, this story is a perfect example of how Rockstar Games has operated for years and why the studio needs significantly more time than most of the industry.

First and foremost, it’s about extreme attention to detail. Rockstar designs its games not just with the launch day in mind, but for the long-term life of the title. The worlds created by the studio are constructed so that players can analyze them for decades, discovering new relationships, theories, and secrets long after completing the main storyline. Hiding easter eggs that go unnoticed for years requires very complex world planning, maintaining full narrative coherence, and the work of teams focused solely on details that most audiences will never consciously see. It’s the complete opposite of the annual release model, where the rapid turnover of successive installments is what matters most.

The second key aspect is the fact that GTA 6 is set to be the largest project in Rockstar's history. According to available information, the game will offer the largest map that the studio has ever created, as well as the most advanced simulation of a city and NPC behaviors. The game world is expected to change dynamically and will be developed even after its release, which means the necessity to design systems resistant to future updates and expansions. Such a level of ambition automatically translates to years of testing, optimization, and rebuilding key mechanics from the ground up.

Also significant is the shift in work philosophy after 2018. After the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar was heavily criticized for working conditions and the so-called crunch. In the following years, the studio began gradually extending production cycles, changing team structures, and prioritizing a slower, more balanced pace of work. The result of these changes is a longer game development process, but at the same time, less pressure on employees and greater control over the quality of the final product.

In the end, it's important to remember the purely business aspect. GTA V and GTA Online continue to generate huge revenues, which is why Rockstar is not under financial pressure to expedite the release of GTA 6. For the publisher, it is a much safer solution to delay the release and refine the project rather than risk launching a game that does not meet the studio's very high standards or the players' expectations.

All of this means that the long wait for GTA 6 is not a result of chaos or production problems, but rather a consequence of a consciously chosen strategy by Rockstar.

Rockstar plays the long game

The new easter egg in Red Dead Redemption 2 is a perfect example of Rockstar's philosophy. The studio creates worlds that live their own lives for years, not just until the credits roll. If players are still discovering secrets in a game that's seven years old, it's not hard to understand why GTA 6 is taking so long to develop. For Rockstar, time is not an issue. Perfection – certainly.
