LG challenges Sonos. The first Dolby Atmos FlexConnect audio system debuts!

Calendar 12/18/2025

LG Sound Suite is a new wireless audio system with Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, allowing soundbars and speakers to connect without cables and enabling the creation of a home theater setup with up to a 13.1.7 configuration.

LG enters the game for the premium wireless audio segment. During CES 2026, the company presented LG Sound Suite, its first ecosystem of speakers based on Dolby Atmos FlexConnect technology. This solution aims to combine the flexibility known from Sonos with full-fledged Dolby Atmos spatial sound – without cables and without the classic amplifier tangle.

What is Dolby Atmos FlexConnect

Dolby Atmos FlexConnect is a new audio platform where speakers connect wirelessly directly to the television or soundbar, and the system automatically calibrates itself to the room conditions. Thanks to active acoustic correction, the speakers do not have to stand in "ideal" spots – they can be placed on shelves, in corners, or behind the sofa.

As Dolby emphasizes, it is about maximum freedom of configuration without compromising sound quality. This aspect is expected to be the greatest threat to Sonos, which has dominated the modular audio system segment for years.

LG Sound Suite – system components

The new LG Sound Suite ecosystem consists of several components that can be combined in various configurations:

  • LG H7 – 3.1.2 soundbar with upward and side-firing speakers, the first soundbar on the market with Dolby Atmos FlexConnect

  • LG M5 – compact 2.1.2 speakers

  • LG M7 – larger 4.1.2 speakers

  • LG W7 – 8” subwoofer that can stand vertically or lay flat, with a claimed bottom frequency of 25.9 Hz

All transducers are provided by the Danish company Peerless Audio, and the H7 soundbar is powered by the Alpha 11 Gen 3 processor, known from LG's OLED TVs for 2026.

Soundbar is not required

One of the more interesting elements of FlexConnect is that the soundbar is not always necessary. LG demonstrates configurations where four M7 speakers serve as front and rear channels, connecting directly to the LG TV from 2026. This approach is very similar to the Sony Theatre Quad concept – just without a cable to the central unit.

Alternatively, the system can be built traditionally: H7 soundbar as the center, along with M5 or M7 speakers as satellites and W7 subwoofer. Importantly, the system can be expanded over time, exactly like in the Sonos ecosystem.

Up to 13.1.7 Dolby Atmos channels

LG declares that it is currently possible to configure even 13.1.7, which means:

  • 13 channels at ear level

  • 1 subwoofer

  • 7 height channels

In practice, the system supports:

  • up to 4 wireless speakers

  • 1 subwoofer

  • direct connection to the TV or soundbar

Initially, there are 27 different configurations available, and LG emphasizes that this is more than what Sonos offers – especially in terms of the flexibility of speaker placement.

Limitations – like Sonos

However, not everything looks perfect. Mixing speakers from different brands is still not possible, even though the first announcements of FlexConnect in 2023 suggested otherwise. In practice, this means a closed ecosystem – exactly like at Sonos.

A certain question mark remains over signal delay. Dolby admits that FlexConnect introduces latency, which can be compensated for when watching movies and TV shows. LG has not yet confirmed whether the system will be fully usable for playing on consoles in 2026.

Support for LG TVs

Dolby Atmos FlexConnect will natively reach selected LG TVs from 2026, and the update will also be available for models from 2025:

  • G5

  • C5

  • C5S

  • QNED9M

Sound Suite also supports music functions, including AirPlay, Google Cast, and Spotify Connect, allowing it to be treated as a full-fledged audio system for music.

When and for how much

The market premiere of the LG Sound Suite is scheduled for 2026. Prices have not yet been disclosed, but everything indicates that LG is targeting the premium segment – directly where Sonos has dominated for years. One thing is certain: Dolby Atmos FlexConnect is finally making its way to a major player, and LG could be the first company to genuinely challenge Sonos's dominance in the world of wireless home theater.
