Gemini arrives on Google TV sets in Europe. TCL begins rolling out a new AI assistant.

Calendar 7/14/2026

Google has begun the European rollout of Gemini on TVs running Google TV. The new AI assistant replaces the existing Google Assistant, offering significantly more advanced voice control capabilities. The first manufacturer to receive the update is TCL. Users will gain easier access to movie search, smart home control, and personalized recommendations. This is another step by Google in advancing AI on home entertainment devices.

Gemini changes how people use Google TV

Gemini was created as Google’s next-generation AI voice assistant. It lets users have more natural conversations with their TV without needing specific commands. The assistant helps find movies and shows even when the viewer doesn’t remember their titles. Gemini can also answer questions, play music, and control compatible smart home devices. The rollout began on selected 2026 TCL models from the X11L, C8L, C7L, RM9L, and RM7L series. In the coming weeks the feature will also reach the manufacturer’s more affordable models. Some TVs will first require an update to Android 14. The Gemini update installs automatically over the internet and doesn’t require manual user intervention. Google emphasizes that the new assistant also makes it easy to control TV settings by voice. The solution is meant to compete with Amazon Alexa+, Samsung’s new Bixby, and a future AI-based version of Siri. By using AI, interaction with the TV should be much more intuitive than before. Google says it will continue developing the feature in future updates. In the future, Gemini is expected to become the central element of managing the whole Google TV ecosystem.

More brands will receive Gemini before the end of 2026

Google has confirmed that the rollout will not stop at TCL TVs. Selected 2025 and 2024 models, including those equipped with the Pentonic 700 processor, will also get the update. No schedule has been announced yet for manufacturers such as Sony or other Google TV partners in Europe. It is known, however, that in North America Gemini already runs on the Google TV Streamer device. Currently the assistant supports English and French, but the list of supported languages will be expanded later this year. By the end of 2026 Google plans to make Gemini available on a larger number of Google TV devices running Android 14 or newer. A minimum of 2 GB of RAM will also be required. The company is also developing new features for controlling TV settings by voice. Gemini is set to become one of the key elements of the Google TV platform in the coming years. The rollout will be carried out in stages and may still take several months.

Google has begun rolling out Gemini on Google TV smart TVs in Europe, and the first updates are arriving on TCL models. The new AI assistant offers more natural voice control, smarter content search, and new features that will appear on additional devices over time.
