Does a good projector have to cost several thousand złoty? Chinese company GlowBox has unveiled its first model, the R1, which offers native Full HD resolution, automatic image adjustment, and a CVIA brightness of 620 lumens. The biggest surprise, however, is the price: the device costs just 699 yuan, about 500 zł!
The GlowBox R1 uses LCD technology with a panel supplied by BOE. The projector offers a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, a claimed contrast ratio of 3000:1 and HDR support. It can also decode 4K films, though it displays them in Full HD.
The manufacturer claims a brightness of 620 CVIA lumens, but it's worth remembering that the Chinese standard differs from the more common ANSI and ISO measures. Only independent tests will show how the device performs in practice.
Up to 120 inches and automatic image adjustment
The GlowBox R1 can project an image up to 120 inches diagonally. With a throw ratio of 1.25:1 it needs about 3.3 meters from the wall to do that. An interesting feature is an integrated bracket that lets you rotate the projector 360 degrees and project onto the ceiling. The device also includes a ToF sensor and a gyroscope, responsible for autofocus and image geometry correction.
On board are Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 and two 3 W speakers. The unit runs Dangbei OS, which the manufacturer says does not show ads during startup or while casting.
The projector weighs just 1.18 kg, and its sales in China began on October 15. The price is 699 yuan (about 500 zł). It is not yet known whether the GlowBox R1 will also arrive in Europe.
It's an interesting offering in the budget segment, though the actual image quality remains unknown.
