If you've ever found yourself tapping the laptop screen and feeling that it isn't as responsive as your phone, we have good news. Changes are on the way that will make using a computer with your finger a pleasure, rather than a struggle against uncooperative hardware. All thanks to new technology from Himax.

Himax – a giant you probably haven't heard of

Before we move on to the news, it's worth knowing who we're dealing with. Himax Technologies is a company from Taiwan that is the "brain" hidden in millions of screens around the world. They don't produce displays or entire laptops, but they create what is most important – small chips (controllers) that tell the screen how to display the image and how to respond to your touch. You will find their technology in cars, televisions, and even virtual reality goggles. They are like the "backstage masters" of the technology industry.

End of the “lagging” touch

Himax has just announced that their latest invention has gone into mass production. What does this mean for the average user of a laptop with an OLED screen?

  1. Faster response: The screen will respond to touch without delays.

  2. Better precision: The new chips can excellently distinguish a finger's touch from random electrical interference. As a result, gesture controls (e.g., zooming in on photos) will work perfectly every time.

  3. Better image: The new method of mounting these controllers ensures that the touch layer does not “interfere” with the screen itself. The image remains crystal clear, and the colours (as is the case with OLEDs) will be even more stunning.

When will laptops with this novelty hit the shops?

The largest global brands are already working on new models of computers with Himax technology. The first laptops equipped with these smart chips will start leaving the factories as early as the beginning of 2026. So if you are planning to replace your equipment in a year or two, get ready for a completely new working comfort.
