Recent reports from Counterpoint Research bring very optimistic news for fans of MicroLED technology. In 2025, total revenue from MicroLED displays is expected to increase by 150% year on year. This is a huge surprise, considering that just two years ago the industry was shaken to its core by Apple's decision to scrap plans for mass production of these panels.
AR Glasses and Garmin the Kings of 2025
Last year belonged primarily to smaller screens. As much as 58% of all revenues from this technology was generated by the smart AR glasses segment. This is where MicroLED performs best, offering the brightness needed to work in full sunlight while maintaining miniature sizes. An important milestone was also the debut of the Garmin fēnix 8 Pro watch. This is the world's first smartwatch with a MicroLED screen, which proved that this technology has finally 'matured' for commercial products that we can simply buy in stores.
Samsung vs. TCL and Hisense
In the MicroLED television segment, it still remains a premium technology that cannot yet compete in price with OLED or LCD. However, the report indicates an important change: Samsung, which has been almost the only player in this league for years, has now faced strong competition from TCL and Hisense. Analysts predict that this rivalry will gradually begin to drive prices down, although MicroLEDs will still remain in a price bracket inaccessible to the average consumer.
What awaits MicroRGB technology in 2026?
The forecasts for this year are clear: the TV segment is set to take the largest share of revenues from MicroLED. It is these gigantic screens, which we have discussed earlier, that are expected to become the main driving force behind profits. Additionally, this technology will begin to appear in cars (projected 2% market share) – we will see, among other things, ultra-bright Head-Up displays and transparent panels that are much more durable and brighter than those made with OLED technology.
