The latest edition of State of Play proved to be one of the strongest showcases in recent years. For over 60 minutes, Sony presented both big AAA projects and smaller, more experimental productions. The focus was primarily on games heading to PlayStation 5, although some titles will also be coming to PC and other platforms. Viewers received new trailers, gameplay snippets, and a few unexpected comebacks of iconic brands. The showcase was clearly geared towards the coming months and the year 2026. There were also several moments that sparked significant excitement among fans.
Big Comebacks and Strong Names
Among the showcased productions were new materials from Pragmata, 007 First Light, and another look at the Silent Hill universe. The remake of the classic God of War trilogy also sparked a lot of excitement, as well as the announcement of a two-dimensional prequel set in this world. Well-known brands like Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid also appeared on stage, returning in refreshed versions. However, one of the most talked-about moments was the first trailer for the high-budget game featuring John Wick.
Diversity instead of one "bomb"
Although some were hoping for an absolutely groundbreaking announcement of a new first-party project from Sony, the presentation focused primarily on a wide range of offerings and genre diversity. Alongside spectacular action productions, there were races in the Star Wars universe, dark indie projects, and collections of classic titles. For many players, it was one of the most "loaded" showcases in a long time, even if there was a lack of one dominant announcement that would define the entire generation.
The State of Play from February 2026 showed that Sony has a solid plan for the upcoming months. Instead of one big surprise, we received a series of specific announcements and gameplay reveals. If the titles presented deliver on quality, the coming year for the PS5 could be truly intense.
