Owners of the PlayStation 5 Pro have reasons to be excited. Everything indicates that Sony is preparing a very specific boost in power. According to the latest leaks, the technology announced by Mark Cerny, PSSR 2.0 (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), is set to debut in the first quarter of 2026, that is, between January and March. We are talking about a significant update of AI-based upscaling, which is expected to elevate the image quality on the PS5 Pro to a level comparable to the latest solutions from competitors – including the upcoming FSR 4 from AMD.
What will actually change with ChooseTV 2.0?
If the leaks are to be believed, it will not just be a minor facelift. The list of improvements looks really promising:
Significantly higher fluidity - Games that currently hover around 70–80 frames per second are expected to run faster and – more importantly – much more stably.
A second life for older titles - The ChooseTV 2.0 is set to offer advanced upscaling for older games with low resolutions, allowing classics to look stunning even on 4K and 8K screens.
Better image quality - New machine learning algorithms are expected to greatly reduce artifacts while maintaining a high level of detail and sharpness.

It is also worth emphasising that according to rumours, PSSR 2.0 will not include native Frame Generation. However, this does not close off the developers' path to using solutions such as FSR 3, should they wish to further multiply frames. Moreover, Sony is set to add new diagnostic tools that will significantly facilitate the optimisation of games for the PS5 Pro and the new version of PSSR.
For now, Sony is officially silent and has not provided any specific date. The industry, however, expects that we will soon see another technical presentation from Mark Cerny. If the rumours prove true, the PS5 Pro could really take flight.
