Philips releases Android 14 update for older Google TVs!

Calendar 9/8/2025

Philips rolls out Android 14 for 2023 and 2024 Google TVs. OTA update brings new features, improved performance and security.

Philips has just begun the process of updating its Google TV televisions from 2023 and 2024, elevating them from Android 12 to Android 14. This is the same version of the system that is factory installed in this year's 2025 models.

Initial Update Only via USB

As reported by the Toengel blog, new software appeared at the end of April, but only in the form of a file for manual installation via a USB drive. However, users are now beginning to receive firmware as a standard OTA update, installed automatically.

What does Android 14 bring?

Although Google skipped number 13, Android 14 is not a massive revolution. However, it introduces several useful novelties and improvements in performance, security, and accessibility. Among the previously announced features were including. Energy Modes and support for Picture-in-Picture (but not for streaming applications). The update also lays the groundwork for a new smart home control panel in Google TV.

Increasingly, new features are being delivered to Google TV directly from the cloud, but compatibility depends on the version of Android in the television – which is why the update matters.

Models Covered by the Update

The update is coming to Philips Google TVs from 2023 and 2024. Models from 2025, such as the currently tested Philips OLED810 by FlatpanelsHD, will come with Android 14 as standard, although most of the manufacturer's new devices already run on Titan OS instead of Google TV.

List of compatible models:

  • Philips OLED909

  • Philips OLED809 (OLED819, OLED849, OLED859, OLED889)
