LG and Samsung may join forces in OLED and change the market for 4K 240Hz monitors.

LG Electronics may start using Samsung Display panels, which just a few years ago would have been unthinkable. According to leaks, these are 27-inch QD-OLED 4K 240Hz panels that are expected to be used in LG monitors by the end of the year. This is an interesting move, as until now LG has primarily focused on its own WOLED technologies, and now it seems to want to expand its offering and turn to competitors' solutions.

LG may combine QD OLED and WOLED to better tailor monitors to various applications and market segments

In practice, it's not about abandoning its own panels, but rather about a "technology mix" strategy. LG Display is developing its WOLED, but Samsung's QD-OLED has its advantages, especially in brightness, colours, and gaming applications. If LG starts to use both technologies, it may better align products with different users – for example, some models for gaming, others for work or multimedia. Already, companies like ASUS and Dell are using QD-OLED panels, so LG may simply not want to be left behind.

Collaboration between LG and Samsung shows how great the pressure from China is changing the display market

Not long ago, LG and Samsung were direct rivals, but the situation is changing. Increasing competition from Chinese manufacturers is causing the Korean companies to begin collaborating rather than just competing. Samsung Electronics has previously used LG panels in its televisions, and now a shift in the other direction is possible. This shows that OLED is becoming a key technology for the future, and companies want to strengthen their position in the market together.

If LG really starts using QD-OLED from Samsung, it could be a big change for the monitor market. A greater choice of technology means better products and more competition, especially in the premium segment.
