Final Fantasy VII Revelation will offer on PlayStation 5 Pro a mode that combines high image quality with smooth 60 frames per second performance. The game's director, Naoki Hamaguchi, confirmed that the developers will use PSSR for this, Sony's image reconstruction system.
Hamaguchi announced that a mode for the PS5 Pro has been prepared to deliver 4K and 60 fps. PSSR allows the reconstruction of a higher-resolution image from a lower rendering resolution, meaning the console's GPU does not have to render every frame natively at 4K. So this is the currently popular upscaling, this time in PlayStation form.
Accounts from people who had the chance to play the game's demo suggest it runs surprisingly well. Drops below 60 frames per second were said to be sporadic, and there is still plenty of time until release. Final Fantasy VII Revelation will debut on 8 April 2027.
The news that a game as big as FF VII Revelation runs so well may raise high hopes among console gamers. The title expands the library of games that natively support PSSR 2.0. The technology is still being developed by PlayStation. It’s likely that more and more new releases coming to the Japanese console will support upscaling.
