Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, a massive leak ignites fans, but is it true?

Final Fantasy fans cannot complain about a lack of excitement. Although Square Enix has not yet officially announced the third part of the remake, a detailed leak has appeared online, which has quickly sparked interest in the community. According to the leak, the finale of the trilogy often referred to as Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 could be showcased as early as during the Summer Game Fest 2026. The problem is that some of the information sounds too good to be true.

What the leak says, the grand scale and new mechanics

The leak suggests that the game would be titled Final Fantasy VII Return and debut in early 2027. However, the most excitement surrounds the details regarding the content. We're talking about a significantly larger world, even twice the size of that in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and a huge emphasis on the storyline, with the number of cutscenes reportedly several times greater than before. Additionally, there will be new playable characters and an extra combat system called “Active Turn Action,” which is said to combine elements of classic ATB with modern action.

On paper, this sounds like a dream come true for fans—greater scale, more story, and increased gameplay freedom. Furthermore, there are talks of a return to Midgar and expanding the world with new areas, which could further elevate the epic nature of the trilogy's finale. If even some of this information proves true, it could be one of the biggest releases of this generation.

Why some information raises doubts

The problem is that some elements of the leak seem rather unrealistic. Tripling the number of cutscenes or such a significant increase in the scale of the world is a huge production challenge, even for a large studio like Square Enix. However, the most controversy surrounds the combat system; a return to a more turn-based style contradicts the direction in which the series has developed in recent instalments. The creators had previously clearly suggested that they wanted to move towards dynamic action, rather than reverting to old solutions. Additionally, insiders are dampening expectations, suggesting that some information may be false or exaggerated. This means that the leak should be approached with great caution. On the other hand, its popularity itself shows the immense expectations the community has regarding the conclusion of Cloud's story.

The leak regarding Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 has ignited the imagination of fans, but there are many indications that some of the information may be exaggerated. Official confirmation may still be awaited until the Summer Game Fest.
