Do you have YouTube Premium and hear ads? Google explains what's happening.

Calendar 2/25/2026

YouTube Premium subscription was supposed to guarantee peace from ads. Meanwhile, some users have started reporting that despite having an active subscription, ads still appear while playing music. The problem mainly affects smart speakers and devices from the Google Home and Nest series.

Advertisements despite active subscription

According to user reports, advertisements appear both before tracks and during the playback of playlists in YouTube Music. This is particularly frustrating for those who purchased a Premium plan specifically to avoid them. Interestingly, the app on smartphones works correctly. The problem seems to mainly affect Google Home and Google Nest devices. Users are also reporting other irregularities: long pauses between tracks, random music selection, issues starting playback.

Google responds, but there is still no solution

The issue has been raised on the official Google Nest community forum. Representatives of the company have acknowledged that they are aware of the problem and have started analysing the errors related to YouTube Music playback on home devices. Although the message does not explicitly mention advertisements, everything suggests that it may be related to a fault in recognising the active Premium subscription. In such a situation, the system treats the user as someone without a subscription and displays advertisements.

YouTube suggests basic diagnostic steps: checking if the device is logged into the correct account, logging out and logging back in, checking account linking settings in the Google Home app. If the problem pertains only to the speakers, and not the mobile app, it is most likely a fault on the Google services side, rather than the user's.

Advertisements on YouTube Music with an active Premium subscription are a serious annoyance. Especially when they concern equipment produced by the same company. Google states that it is working on a solution, but a specific date for the fix has not yet been provided. If the situation drags on, some users may start looking for an alternative.
