Disney+ is refreshing its appearance. The new app will first appear on TV devices – Apple TV, Fire TV, Google TV, Roku, and Smart TVs. It will only later be available on mobile devices, starting with iOS.
The biggest change is the new top navigation bar, as well as the tab “For You”, which becomes the default homepage. It is there that users will see personalised recommendations based on their previous viewing habits.
Hulu instead of Star – global change from 8th October
Disney has confirmed that Hulu will replace the Star brand as its international entertainment content service. The app will feature separate tabs for Disney+, Hulu and ESPN, allowing users to explore each catalogue individually.
The company emphasises that this is preparation for the launch of a integrated app that will combine all services next year. In the coming months, we can expect further changes in the appearance and navigation of the app, aimed at making it more transparent and intuitive.
A more dynamic look
The new interface is meant to be more visual and engaging – the main screen will feature a self-playing carousel of content. User Profiles will also be more prominently displayed, so that everyone has quick access to content recommended specifically for them.
New Features on iOS and Future Updates
After the launch on TV, the redesign will come to mobile devices. The first updates will be available for iPhone and iPad users. Disney+ also announced widgets for iOS, which will allow users to go directly to programmes with a single click.
In 2025, experiences designed specifically for mobile devices will also be introduced to attract new audiences and increase time spent in the app.
Price Increases and Next Steps
Changes in the interface come just after the announcement of another price increase for Disney+ subscriptions. It started in the American market, and now higher prices are gradually being introduced in Europe and other regions as well.
The new interface is meant to be a response to growing competition and at the same time a preparation for a significant step – merging Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN into one app.
