We’re testing the Hisense U8Q! Mini-LED, 165 Hz, HDMI 2.1 and USB-C with DisplayPort!
The U8Q is making its entrance into the premium segment with a bang: over 2000 nits of brightness, local dimming across thousands of zones, 165 Hz (PC), three full HDMI 2.1, VRR/ALLM and — for the first time in a regular TV — USB-C with DisplayPort for connecting a laptop with just one cable. We checked if this “revolution” actually makes sense in everyday use, how the U8Q performs in gaming, and what Mini-LED can really do.
What our test is about (in short)
Brightness and HDR: spectacular “highlights”, but also honestly discussing when dimming algorithms add a “wow” effect at the cost of fidelity.
Gaming: 165 Hz for PC, very low input lag, VRR and Dolby Vision for games; minus for lack of HGIG — we show how to set up HDR on the console to avoid losing details.
USB-C/DP in TVs: why it’s not a gadget, but a practical convenience for MacBooks and ultrabooks (video+audio without adapters).
Image processing: a significant leap in quality — smooth gradients and effective banding reduction without “soap opera effect”.
Everyday use: fast VIDAA system, recording to USB, solar remote with USB-C charging, adjustable base for soundbar.
