On 15 September 2025, TCL CSOT officially announced that it is entering the OLED technology on a large scale. The company plans to build a new generation 8.6 factory in Canton, allocating 29.5 billion yuan for this purpose, which is about 4.15 billion dollars!
The facility will be named T8 and according to announcements, construction will begin in November 2025. The entire process is expected to take two years, so mass production will start at the end of 2027. The new line will be able to process 22,500 substrates per month, which will then be cut into smaller panels.
Small and medium formats to start with
At the start, TCL CSOT intends to focus on the production of OLED panels for monitors, notebooks, and tablets. Televisions will remain in the plans for a later stage of development. The company has chosen a different path than LG Display or Samsung Display. Instead of the traditional process of depositing organic materials, it will opt for inkjet printing. This technology aims to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and provide RGB OLED panels with pure colours, high resolution, and better energy efficiency. TCL has already showcased prototypes of panels ranging from 6.5 to 65 inches. According to unofficial reports, one of the first products available on the market will be a 27-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 4K and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which may appear in early 2027.
Third Player in the OLED Market
Until now, TCL has been primarily associated with the development of miniLED LCD technology. The announced investment shows that the company intends to seriously enter the OLED segment and compete with market leaders. Panels printed using RGB OLED technology could in the future represent a third alternative alongside the WOLED panels produced by LG Display and QD-OLED from Samsung Display. If the project is successful, TCL will gain the position of the third major OLED supplier and could significantly influence the TV market in the coming years.
